I consider myself lucky as I was able to see precisely the Seven Colored Earth with my own eyes. I don’t have words to express the feeling of beauty and wonder on seeing that unusual sight. Unlocking from my travel memories about that beautiful experience I had after visiting the Seven Colored Earth in Mauritius.
Mauritius is so beautiful that often people compare it beauty with Heaven. There are endless beaches and picturesque scenic beauty all over the place. Mark Twain is my favorite writer of all times. I remember reading somewhere he mentioned it was heaven copied from Mauritius. This remarkable statement from such a great author leaves an inner meaning, and I experienced that beauty after landing at Mauritius. With treasures of exceptional beaches, watersports, nightlife, clear skies and deep blue water, Mauritius is a single name where beauty beholds imagination. The Seven Colored Earth in Mauritius is just one of those amazing natural treasures this Island has. I really could not wait anymore to see the Seven Colored Earth after I landed. I checked into my hotel room and called the reception to arrange a taxi for me. I have no time to take food and I just rushed through as my excitement was at the peak, how it is possible to have earth with natural colours of a rainbow? Is it an illusion effect?
The hotel reception informed me that this amazing unique place is located in a small village called Chamarel. The spectacular village is surrounded by lush green tropical forests and my chauffeur drove me along. He was sharing me many stories about the Chamarel Seven colored earth and how it was discovered. Finally, I reached the spot and my excitement and thrill increased with leaps and bounces. It was a lush green forest and inside remains the hidden secret, the Chamarel Seven colored earth. I walked close to the site and found the area protected with a fence. I really could not believe my own eyes. In front of me remain soil emitting seven distinct colors like red, brown, violet, green, blue, purple and yellow. I was so keen I focused my camera lenses to see the color of every sand particle. They are all in distinct colors. My local guide informed that over millions of years this coloring soil was lying there in the same way. It never got eroded even with the blow of strong winds or rain. Theories say that this coloring soil is because of the decomposition of volcanic ashes over millions of years. However, geologists failed to explain why it never eroded instead of so many natural calamities, strong winds, rains, etc.
There was a souvenir shop outside the Geopark and I purchased a small sample of the coloring and getting sold in a test tube. I am writing down this article thinking that the world has so many beautiful places for people to travel. I am definite that one life is not enough capturing all these photographic beauties. This thought motivates me and as a restless rolling stone, I keep travelling.
